We are making history

In 1148 Rev Ralph came from the Benedictine monastery of Bec in France to plant the church here in Hungerford. On Wednesday 21 September Rev Marcia Wadham is going to be ordained deacon in St Lawrence’s. We are doing something which as far as we can tell has not happened at St Lawrence’s Hungerford in more than 800 years. We are making history.

Please come to welcome Marcia on 21 September and please pray for her as she starts her new job.

Rev Marcia worked as a ministry assistant at St Nic’s, Newbury while she was discerning whether she was called to be a vicar. She then trained at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford and to get some experience was placed with St Mary’s, Thatcham. She will be ordained deacon on 21 September and in her first year will lead services, preach sermons and take baptisms and funerals. After about a year she will be ordained priest and then she will be able to take communion and weddings services as well. Then in 2025 she will move on to become a vicar and to lead her own church.

We are living in exciting times down at the church. We have added 19 new members in the last year, we have over 70 people who read the lesson or lead the prayers on a Sunday morning and we have more than 50 people who meet in home groups during the week to discuss the bible. It feels as if God is on the move!
