Let's care for creation
Friday 26th June 2026 09:19
The Genesis stories of creation teach us that God is the creator God, that we are God's stewards caring for his creation and that the creation is good.
Sadly, we have done a bad job caring for creation because by burning petrol and gas we have caused climate change.
In Revelation 21 and 22 we are taught that at the end of time God will Re-create this earth so that it is again like the garden of Eden with fruit every month of the year and water to every home.
At St Lawrence's, Hungerford we have been cooperating with God to re-create the earth. Several of us have electric cars (which saves about 34% of our CO2 emissions), many of us have solar panels (which saves about 21% of our CO2 emissions) and the vicarage now has a heat pump (which saves about 29% of our CO2 emissions).
We have also been planting trees, 9,100 trees. In January 2026 Operation Noah came to film us tree planting and you can find their video on our website. They also entered us in a national competition for the "Best community climate and nature action" and on 11 June we were declared runners up! We now have a page on the Sheila McKechnie Foundation website (smf.org.uk) and you can find it by googling "Tree planting at St Lawrences Church Hungerford".
So, thank you to the many volunteers who have made this happen, to Prof Mike Morecroft who got us started and to the farmers who have welcomed us onto their land including Little hidden farm and the Town and Manor. Thank you all.
