The music at Sunday Services supports a wide range of worship styles to meet the needs of the people of Hungerford.

10:00am: Worship for All (1st Sunday)

Our Worship for All service has an informal feel and is supported by a worship band, made up of a variety of instruments and vocalists.

The music has a more contemporary feel but we still love playing old blockbusters. The band rehearses at 9am on the day of the service.

New band members are very welcome; realistically the instrument playing standard required is around Grade 4-5 (as a guide).

10:00am: Communion (2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th Sundays)

Music at the 10am Communion is a mix of traditional hymns and contemporary songs supported by the organ and choir.

St Lawrence is blessed with a wonderful church organ, superbly played by our Director of Music and Organist Julian Holloway.

It was built by Foster and Andrews in Hull in 1880 and it produces a wonderful sound. However, due to its age, it is quite difficult to play and it now requires some restoration work.

The organ enhances and encourages the singing at our regular Sunday worship, and community events such as weddings, funerals, the Mayor's Carol Service and the Constable's Service.

The singing on Sunday is also boosted by a volunteer choir made up of members of the congregation who love to worship by singing, leading the hymns and also providing worshipful music during the distribution of the Communion.

Anybody who can hold a tune is welcome to join the choir and there is no audition. Rehearsal is held before the 10am service on the day.

4:00pm: Informal Worship

Our 4pm informal worship has a very different musical feel to the morning services.

The worship is led by a band, there are prayers, a bible reading and a talk before a few final songs, with the service lasting about an hour.

The music is supported currently by three different worship bands.

There is also a Taizé style service once a term on a third Sunday led by clarinet and vocalists for quiet contemplative worship and meditation.
